Learn about Medicare
DOVER – Pam Wirt, who has worked in the insurance industry for 10 years, will be in the community room of the Dover Public Library, 525 N. Walnut St., at 6:30 pm Tuesday to share her expertise on the different parts of Medicare and what is covered.
She will also explain when the best time is to sign up for Medicare and will answer questions that participants may have about the federal program.

Combine crafts and activism Saturday
DOVER − Members of the Citizens for Racial Justice & Reform – Tuscarawas County will host a free day of crafty activism at 2 pm Saturday in the Dover Public Library’s community room, 525 N. Walnut St.
Participants can paint custom yard signs and peace polishes, as well as use a button maker to create custom pin-back buttons. The event, open to everyone, will include a brief presentation about the formation of the group, ways to get involved, notable events, upcoming events, and general information about the group’s mission and goals.
Chess club starting at Dover library
DOVER – The Dover Public Library is starting a chess club.
The new club will hold its first meeting at 6 pm Wednesday in the community room of the library, 525 N. Walnut St. Everyone is welcome. Bill Houglan will teach, play and socialize with other fans of the game. Bring your own chessboards.

The city and Tuscora Park will hold a job fair from 5 to 7 pm April 12 at Park Place, 161 Tuscora Ave. NW. Open positions are for summer labour, ride operators, lifeguards, and concession and grill workers.
Lifeguard applicants must be at least 15 years old. Lifeguard training for Tuscora Park Pool begins with a pre-qualifying swim test from 11 am to 3 pm May 27. Lifeguarding certification classes are from 4 to 8 pm June 2, and from 8 am to 1 pm June 3 and 4. The cost is $100, and a completed employment application serves as class registration.
Winners of art scholarship contest announced
NEW PHILADELPHIA – Tuscarawas County Juvenile Court Judge Adam W. Wilgus has announced that the first-place winner of the second annual Art Scholarship Contest is Alyssa Renicker from Dover High School, and the second-place winner is Maggie Johnson from Indian Valley High School.
Renicker will attend The Culinary Institute of America and Johnson will attend The Ohio State University in the fall.
The winners’ artwork will be displayed permanently in Wilgus’ courtroom. The first-place winner will receive a $500 scholarship, and the second-place winner will receive a $250 scholarship at a presentation at 3 pm April 24 in the courtroom.
Survivors of suicide support group forming
NEW PHILADELPHIA − The Alcohol, Drug Addiction, and Mental Health Services Board of Tuscarawas and Carroll Counties Board has scheduled a “Meet and Greet” with the Light After Loss organization that offers a trauma-focused support system for survivors of suicide loss.
At 6 pm Thursday, Light After Loss Director Shannon Ortiz will present at the ADAMHS Board, 119 Garland Drive SW, about the services of Light After Loss and to answer questions that attendees may have regarding the referral process to the new group that will begin in Tuscarawas County in May 2023.

Ridgewood Local sets kindergarten registration
WEST LAFAYETTE – Registration for children who will be entering kindergarten in the Ridgewood Local School District will be held April 17, 18 and 19 at Ridgewood Elementary School. Registration will be scheduled by appointment; call Ridgewood Elementary School 740-545-5312 from 7 am to 3 pm to schedule an appointment.
To register, the child must be 5 by Aug. 1 and must participate in a developmental screening assessment, which will be performed on registration day. The child’s birth certificate, immunization records and proof of residence must be provided, along with court documents showing custody when the child does not reside with both/natural parents.
Zoar Pretzel Day is Friday
ZOAR − Historic Zoar Village continues a Good Friday tradition with the return of Pretzel Day from 11 am to 4 pm Friday at the Zoar Bakery. Pretzels will be available for purchase fresh from the oven and from convenient grab-and-go stations.
In the 1800s, Zoar’s Society of Separatists made soft pretzels during their religious observance of Good Friday. Some historians say these pretzels were originally called “bracellae,” the Latin term for “little arms,” from which Germans later derived the word “bretzel.”
Pretzels are available plain, with salt or as dessert pretzels with “the works.” Pretzels from the oven will be limited to two per person. Packs of multiple pretzels will be available at the grab-and-go stations. Proceeds from the pretzel sale benefit Historic Zoar Village’s educational programming and building restorations.
